This past Tuesday a customer from Ferriday, the hometown of Jerry Lee Lewis, came to the saloon and proceeded to have a few to many. When he decided it was time to go, the locals, along with J.D., became worried about his driving ability. Therefore, they proceeded to tell him he couldn’t drive safely and should call a taxi for a ride home.
The customer told everyone he had spent what little money he had and couldn’t afford a taxi. Being the kindhearted people we are, everybody pitched in and quickly gave him $20 to cover the tipsy-taxi fare.
Taking flight
With the $20 in his pocket he waited for the taxi, but when it arrived he refused to get in. After some pretty heated discussions, he broke and made a dash for his car, and this is when the kidnapping occurred. It’s a little fuzzy how it actually happened, but without a doubt a regular visitor to the saloon, Zeus, wound up in the man’s car and he sped away at a fast pace.
Everybody at the saloon was perplexed, but let’s proceed to the next day when events began to unravel and more was learned.
The morning after the kidnapping Miss Lulu came into the saloon and everyone was talking about Zeus being kidnapped the night before. Lulu, knowing the man went across the bridge to Louisiana, called the Mayor of Vidalia to see if he could help.
For those who may not know, the saloon is very pet friendly and Zeus is one of our favorite pets and our most regular visitor.
The Mayor of Vidalia called the city dogcatcher to put out an APB on Zeus. During their conversation the Mayor learned that Zeus was around Lake Concordia, several miles away. It seems Zeus was being very unfriendly toward one of the dogcatchers that were called to a lake resident.
Back to the kidnapping
With Zeus unable to escape, the kidnapper crossed into Louisiana but the police wound up in pursuit due to the man’s erratic driving. Eventually he wrecked his car and when he exited his vehicle he began to argue with the law and then ran away on foot. Zeus must have become confused, for when he saw the man running from the police he ran too.
When the Mayor informed Miss Lulu of Zeus’ whereabouts she proceeded to the location and found Zeus still arguing with the dogcatcher. However, when he spotted Lulu he knew things were getting better and as soon as the car door was opened Zeus jumped in, ready to once again flee the police. |
